About

The Hong Kong Premier League (HKPL) T20 Tournament stands as the premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition within Hong Kong. Organised by Cricket Hong Kong, the body formerly known as the Hong Kong Cricket Association, the event showcases the highest level of local club cricket. While the broader league structure dates back to 2015, the specific T20 format was introduced in 2019, marking a shift towards shorter-format play for established societies.

Five local clubs currently compete in the tournament. The participants include Kowloon Cricket Club, Hong Kong Cricket Club, United Services Recreation Club, Pakistan Association of Hong Kong, and Diasqua Little Sai Wan Cricket Club. These teams represent traditional cricketing institutions rather than commercial entities. This approach distinguishes the competition from the short-lived Hong Kong T20 Blitz, which operated between 2016 and 2018 and featured international franchise players. The HKPL remains focused on local talent and club identity.

The competition follows a straightforward format. Teams play a single round-robin group stage. The two sides finishing at the top of the standings advance to a final to determine the champion. This structure ensures every team plays each other once before the decisive match.

Kowloon Cricket Club holds the record for success in the tournament. They secured victories in the inaugural 2019 edition and the subsequent 2020–21 season. They also claimed the title in the 2024–25 campaign. Their dominance provides continuity in the league's history. Other editions faced disruptions, but the club's achievements remain a central part of the competition's narrative. The tournament continues to serve as the primary platform for domestic T20 cricket in the region.
