About

The 2023 Central Europe Cup stands as the ninth edition of a bilateral series between Hungary and the Czech Republic. Held in June 2023, this tournament marked the first official Twenty20 International (T20I) series contested between the two nations. Previously, the teams had only encountered each other in multi-team events such as the Valletta Cup and the ECI Austria.

The competition took place at the Scott Page Field in Vinor, Prague, featuring three T20I matches. The Czech Republic secured the series victory with a 3–0 sweep. In the opening contest on June 10, the hosts won by nine runs. The second game on June 11 concluded in a tie, decided by a Super Over victory for the Czech side. The final match, also on June 11, saw the Czech Republic triumph by three wickets.

The event occurred under the governance of the Czech Cricket Union (ČMKS), which was established in 2000 and became an International Cricket Council (ICC) Associate Member the same year. The Hungarian team operates under the Hungarian Cricket Association (HCA), founded in 2006 or 2007 and granted ICC Associate status in 2017. Both countries hold membership within ICC Europe.

Domestically, the Czech Republic structures its cricket through the Pro40, T20, and T10 leagues. Hungary’s domestic scene, the Hungarian Cricket League, has undergone various structural changes, recently operating with three teams. This series provided a dedicated platform for the nations to compete outside of broader regional gatherings, solidifying their bilateral relationship in the sport.
