Indian Street Premier League
The Indian Street Premier League is a professional T10 cricket league established in India in 2024. It operates independently of the official domestic pyramid, focusing on tennis-ball cricket to nurture grassroots talent. While it holds recognition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the structure remains distinct from traditional formats.
The competition features celebrity-owned franchises that bring significant attention to the sport. Teams include Majhi Mumbai, Chennai Singams, Falcon Risers Hyderabad, Srinagar Ke Veer, Bangalore Strikers, and Tigers Of Kolkata. The format involves 10 overs per side using tennis balls, with specific rules such as nine-run sixes for balls hitting the crowd and a unique "Tip-Top Toss" involving a heel-to-toe walk. This season runs via a round-robin stage followed by playoffs.
In its inaugural year, the tournament saw Tigers Of Kolkata claim the title. Subsequent winners included Majhi Mumbai in 2025 and Chennai Singams in 2026. The league does not feature promotion or relegation, maintaining a fixed set of participants throughout its tenure.
Predator Energy serves as the main sponsor for the 2025-2026 period. The league aims to provide a platform for emerging talent while leveraging the star power of its owners. This approach distinguishes it from established domestic competitions in India, offering a different pathway for players to gain visibility.
The competition has grown rapidly since its inception, attracting fans through its innovative rules and high-profile affiliations. Each franchise represents a major city, creating a national footprint for the event. The focus remains on entertainment and development within the T10 format.
Attendance figures and viewer numbers continue to rise annually. The league organizers have expressed confidence in the long-term viability of the model. Media coverage has increased significantly, highlighting the success of the celebrity-led structure.
Future seasons plan to expand the number of matches and potentially introduce new teams. The current format ensures a compact schedule suitable for television broadcasting. Player salaries and sponsorship deals reflect the growing commercial interest in street cricket variants.
The Indian Street Premier League represents a shift towards more accessible and entertaining forms of cricket. It complements rather than competes directly with established tournaments.
