About

The Lanka Premier League is a professional Twenty20 cricket competition in Sri Lanka. It operates as the apex franchise league, sitting above traditional club-based tournaments like the SLC Major League T20. The tournament was founded in 2020 by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), with marketing and operational rights held by the Innovative Production Group (IPG).

The league features five city-based franchises: Colombo Kings, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy Tuskers. The format consists of a double round-robin group stage where each team plays ten matches. The top four teams then advance to a knockout phase comprising a Qualifier 1, an Eliminator, a Qualifier 2, and the Final. There is no promotion or relegation, as all teams are private franchises.

Jaffna Kings is the most successful side, having won four titles. The current champion is the Galle Gladiators, who claimed their maiden title in the 2026 season. Notable individual records include Avishka Fernando for most runs and Wanindu Hasaranga for most wickets. The competition distinguishes itself through its franchise model and commercial focus, differing from the traditional structure of domestic cricket in the region.
