The National Cricket League (NCL) stands as the highest tier of domestic first-class cricket in Bangladesh, operating under the authority of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It serves as the traditional pathway for players aiming for national selection through multi-day contests, distinct from the franchise-based Twenty20 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) or the former zonal Bangladesh Cricket League.
The competition was inaugurated in the 1999–2000 season, receiving official first-class status the following year as Bangladesh became a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The structure underwent significant changes when the two-tier system involving promotion and relegation, active from 2015–16 to 2023–24, was abolished. The current format utilizes a single eight-team round-robin setup, with Mymensingh Division replacing Dhaka Metropolis in the 2025–26 campaign.
Dhaka Division and Khulna Division lead the history with seven titles each. Dhaka Division’s victories span from 2001–02 through to 2023–24, while Khulna Division’s wins include the 2019–20 season. Rajshahi Division has secured six championships. In recent seasons, the title has shifted to newer regions, with Sylhet Division winning in 2024–25 and Rangpur Division claiming their third crown in 2025–26.
Sponsorship arrangements have varied, featuring names such as Walton and Modhumoti Bank. The league maintains its focus on regional representation rather than private franchises, ensuring a direct link to player development for the national side.
