About

National Cricket League is the premier domestic first-class cricket competition in Bangladesh, administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Inaugurated in the 1999–2000 season, it received official first-class status in the following campaign after Bangladesh was elevated to Full Member status of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament stands as the oldest domestic first-class competition in the country.

The league sits at the top of the domestic first-class pyramid. It is a regional division-based competition, distinct from the franchise-based Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The current season features eight teams representing the eight regional divisions of Bangladesh. For the 2025–26 season, Mymensingh Division replaced Dhaka Metropolis in the first-class format. The season typically runs from October to December, with matches played over four days.

The format was a single round-robin for the 2024–25 season. This followed a two-tier system that operated from 2015–16 to 2023–24, during which promotion and relegation occurred between the tiers. Since reverting to a single tier, the internal promotion mechanism between tiers no longer exists, though team composition changes are managed by the BCB. Khulna Division and Dhaka Division are the most successful clubs, each holding seven titles. Rajshahi Division is the third most successful with six titles. The winner of the most recent completed season was Sylhet Division. The 2025–26 champion is listed as Rangpur Division.

Notable records include Tushar Imran holding the record for most runs and Dhaka Division’s highest team score of 756/5d against Rajshahi in 2013–14. The competition has undergone various sponsorships, including Walton and Modhumoti Bank. The key distinction from neighboring competitions is that the NCL is the primary regional first-class tournament, whereas the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) is an elite zonal first-class competition for player development. The List A (one-day) status previously held by the NCL has been transferred to the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL), which is a club-based competition.
