About

The National Cricket League Twenty20 is the premier regional domestic Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh. Organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, it operates independently from the franchise-based Bangladesh Premier League. The tournament functions as the top-tier regional league within the national structure, serving as a critical pathway for players aiming to reach the BPL through their performances.

Eight regional divisional sides contest the title. The participating teams include Barisal Division, Chittagong Division, Dhaka Division, Dhaka Metropolis, Khulna Division, and Rajshahi Division. Each squad represents an administrative division rather than a commercial entity. This structure ensures that regional pride drives the competition, distinguishing it from other professional leagues in the country.

The season follows a structured format designed to determine a clear champion. It begins with a single round-robin stage where every team plays each opponent once. The top four sides from this league phase advance to a knockout playoff system. This segment includes a Qualifier 1, an Eliminator, a Qualifier 2, and the final match. The winner of the final takes home the regional championship honour.

Historical data is complex due to a hiatus in the early 2010s. The tournament was suspended after its inaugural season to accommodate the creation of the BPL. It was later revived and expanded to include more teams. Rangpur Division claimed the most recent title in the 2024–25 edition, securing their first victory in the competition. Sylhet Division and Rangpur Division are also part of the current lineup alongside the other regional corps.

The competition remains central to domestic cricket development in Bangladesh. It provides a platform for local talent to showcase skills against regional rivals. Selection for higher-level squads often depends on results achieved here. The league continues to evolve as a vital component of the nation's sporting landscape.
