The National Cricket League Twenty20 (NCL T20) serves as a developmental pathway for domestic cricket in Bangladesh. Organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the tournament was revived in December 2024 following a hiatus of more than a decade. It operates below the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in commercial standing, distinguishing itself through strict participation rules. Unlike its top-tier counterpart, which features international stars, the NCL T20 includes only local Bangladeshi players.
The competition utilises a league and knockout format. The 2024–25 revived edition comprised eight teams. These sides represent divisional entities rather than private franchises. Examples include Rangpur Division and Dhaka Metropolis. The structure ensures the tournament functions as preparation for both the BPL draft and national team selection. In the most recent final, Rangpur Division defeated Dhaka Metropolis to claim the title. They remain the defending champions as of late 2025.
The 2025–26 season is scheduled for September and October 2025. This timeline keeps the competition active and relevant for player development. The league maintains a clear separation from the First-Class National Cricket League. That separate competition also employs divisional teams but utilises multi-day matches. The NCL T20 remains focused on the Twenty20 format.
The tournament’s return marks a significant step for Bangladesh cricket infrastructure. It provides a structured environment for emerging talent to compete at a high level. The emphasis on local players ensures that domestic skill sets are prioritised. This approach supports the broader ecosystem of the sport within the country. The format allows for consistent match play throughout the designated months. Teams can assess performance and form before moving to other competitions.
