Quadrangular Twenty20 Series (Malaysia) 2022/23

The Quadrangular Twenty20 Series operates as a developmental platform for associate cricket nations in Southeast Asia. It is not a fixed, annual tournament but rather an ad-hoc series of invitational T20 International matches. Each edition is organized by the host nation’s cricket association, meaning the governing body and location change with every iteration. The competition provides a structured environment for emerging teams to gain experience in limited-overs cricket without the pressure of major qualification stakes.

Recent editions have showcased a fluid participation model. The inaugural 2022 event was hosted in Malaysia, featuring Bhutan, Maldives, Malaysia, and Thailand in a round-robin format followed by knockout stages. Host nation Malaysia secured victory in that tournament. Subsequent tournaments have seen significant shifts in the participating nations. A second edition later in 2022 replaced Bhutan with Bahrain. Progression into 2024 saw the competition move to Thailand and subsequently Bhutan, altering the squad compositions further to include Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. In one instance, the final between Maldives and Thailand was abandoned due to weather conditions.

The 2025 edition returned to Malaysia, bringing together Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Thailand. Malaysia claimed the title once again. While the competition shares the region with the ACC Eastern Region T20 Championship, it serves a different purpose. That sanctioned championship involves stronger entities like Nepal and Hong Kong and acts as a qualifier for the Asia Cup. The Quadrangular Series focuses on player development and competitive exposure for smaller cricketing nations. There is no permanent governing body overseeing the series directly; instead, it relies on the initiative of individual national associations to arrange fixtures and grant T20I status to the matches played.

Current participants include Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.
