The Super50 Cup stands as the premier domestic List A cricket tournament in the West Indies. Organised by Cricket West Indies, it operates at the second tier of the regional pyramid, serving
as the primary platform for developing players for the national One Day International side.
Trinidad and Tobago holds the record for success in the competition, having secured eleven titles. Guyana follows with ten championships, while Jamaica has claimed eight. The current edition features eight teams: the six territorial associations, Combined Campuses and Colleges, and the West Indies Academy. The season runs as a single round-robin league followed by semi-finals and a final. There is no promotion or relegation; the territorial teams are fixed participants. The tournament was first held in the 1972–73 season. Barbados won the inaugural edition, though earlier one-day competitions like the Banks Trophy are considered predecessors.
The format has evolved over time. The number of teams has varied, expanding to include guest teams in the 1990s and undergoing structural splits in the early 2000s before reverting to the territory model. The competition has undergone numerous name changes due to sponsorship, including the Red Stripe Bowl, KFC Cup, and WICB Cup. It is distinct from the first-class Regional Four Day Competition and the T20 Blaze, focusing specifically on the 50-over format which mirrors the international ODI game. The most recent champion was Trinidad and Tobago in 2023. The 2024–25 final was abandoned due to rain, resulting in no declared winner.
The Super50 Cup remains central to West Indies cricket development. Its structure provides consistent fixtures for players aiming for international selection. The territorial associations maintain their positions within the competition, ensuring stability in the domestic calendar. The tournament’s focus on the 50-over game aligns it with global standards for limited-overs cricket.Seasons
