The Super50 Cup is the premier domestic List A cricket competition in the West Indies. Organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI), the tournament occupies the tier immediately below first-class cricket. While the Caribbean Premier League showcases T20 franchises, the Super50 Cup utilises regional representative teams. This structure distinguishes it from the franchise-based model, maintaining a traditional link to territorial boards.
The competition has evolved significantly since its inception. Originally staged as the Banks Trophy during the 1972–73 season, it later adopted the name Gillette Cup in 1975–76. Over the decades, various sponsors have altered its title, with the current iteration known as the CG Insurance Super50 Cup. Despite these branding shifts, the core format remains consistent. Teams are divided into two zones of three for a group stage, followed by semi-finals and a final. There is no promotion or relegation; the six participating sides are established entities.
Trinidad and Tobago holds the record for the most victories in the competition’s history, claiming fourteen titles. Their dominance contrasts with Barbados, who entered the 2025–26 season as champions, marking their ninth title. The field includes Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, and Windward Islands. Unlike the CPL, which attracts international stars under a franchise banner, this domestic event relies on local talent representing their respective regions. The tournament serves as a crucial pathway for players aiming to progress within the West Indies cricket structure. It provides regular competitive matches in the 50-over format, essential for player development and selection for national duties. The fixed nature of the teams ensures stability, allowing fans to follow their regional representatives year after year without the uncertainty of league movement.
