TNPL (India) 2024/25

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Founded in 2016 by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), it operates as a state-level domestic league under the oversight of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The competition was initially created to support local talent during a period when the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings faced a ban.

The tournament features eight city-based franchise teams in a closed model. Current participants include Chepauk Super Gillies (Chennai), Dindigul Dragons (Dindigul), IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans (Tiruppur), Lyca Kovai Kings (Coimbatore), Nellai Royal Kings (Tirunelveli), Ruby Trichy Warriors (Tiruchirapalli), Salem Spartans (Salem), and Madurai Panthers (Madurai). The season typically runs for four weeks between July and August.

The format consists of a round-robin league stage where each team plays seven matches, followed by a playoff stage involving the top four teams. The playoffs include a Qualifier 1, an Eliminator, a Qualifier 2, and the Final. Unlike national tournaments such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which are contested by state associations, the TNPL is franchise-based and city-specific. Historically, the league restricted participation to players registered with the TNCA to focus on local development, though recent seasons have allowed a limited number of outstation players.

Most successful team: Chepauk Super Gillies have won four titles. They secured victories in 2017, 2019, and 2021, and shared the 2022 title.

Reigning champion: Lyca Kovai Kings won their third title in the 2026 season by defeating Madurai Panthers.
