The Twenty20 Quadrangular is a regional cricket tournament featuring the national teams of Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. Organized by Cricket Kenya, it operates as a series of T20 Internationals sanctioned by the ICC rather than a domestic league. The event serves as a developmental and preparatory fixture for East African nations ahead of official ICC qualifiers. Unlike competitions within the primary qualification pyramid, such as the ICC Africa T20 World Cup Qualifiers, this tournament functions as a high-level regional series.
The format employs a round-robin group stage where each team plays every other participant. There is no knockout phase; the winner is determined entirely by league standings. The most recent confirmed instance occurred in 2024 in Nairobi. During that edition, Kenya topped the table with 17 points to win the championship. Malawi finished second with 9 points, while Zambia placed third with 5 points. The final match between Kenya and Malawi, along with the third-place playoff, were abandoned due to rain, with titles awarded based on the round-robin results.
The name "Quadrangular" carries historical weight in East African cricket, referencing an earlier tournament played between 1966 and 1980. That original series involved Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia, with Kenya dominating by winning nine of fifteen editions. The modern iteration is distinct, substituting Malawi and Rwanda for Uganda and Tanzania. It represents a separate regional initiative organized by Cricket Kenya. The 2024 event marked a return to international cricket for Zambia and provided key preparation for the participating teams. The tournament appears to be held intermittently rather than on a strict annual calendar.
