About

World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group C is a preliminary stage in the qualification pathway for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, governed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and organized by the Africa Cricket Association (ACA).

Established in 2021 as part of a structural reform to expand the World Cup qualification pathway, the tournament introduces sub-regional tiers to accommodate more nations. It is not a standalone annual league but a cycle-specific qualifier. The specific Group C involving Botswana, Eswatini, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and St Helena was held in November 2024 in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria. The format consists of a single round-robin group where each of the six teams plays five matches. The top two teams from Group C advance to the Africa Regional Final (the top-tier African qualifier), while the remaining teams are eliminated from the World Cup contention for that cycle, with no relegation to a lower division.

In the 2024 edition, Nigeria won the group with five victories, and Botswana finished second, both advancing to the Regional Final held in Harare, Zimbabwe, in September/October 2025. The Africa Regional Final serves as the primary competition for African nations, featuring stronger teams like Zimbabwe and Namibia, who qualified for the 2026 World Cup. The Sub-Regional Qualifiers differ from the Regional Final by serving as a gateway for emerging or lower-ranked African cricket nations to reach the main continental stage.

Prior to 2021, African qualification used different formats such as the World Cricket League. The 2021 inaugural sub-regional qualifiers were held in Rwanda, with Uganda and Tanzania winning their respective groups. The 2023 cycle featured a single Regional Final league rather than sub-regional groups. The competition is distinct from other African cricket tournaments like the Africa T20 Cup, which is a separate domestic/club-style competition, whereas this is strictly a national team qualification pathway for the global World Cup.
