About the player
Diego Campillo came through Chivas Guadalajara's youth ranks, joining Fuerzas Básicas around 2015-2016 and working his way up to the club's U-20 side before making his senior debut with the reserve team, Chivas Tapatío, in August 2020. A loan to Mineros de Zacatecas in the Liga de Expansión MX followed in 2022, but it was back at Tapatío where he won the Clausura 2023 Liga de Expansión MX title and the Campeón de Campeones.
He scored on his Liga MX debut for the club and went on to make more than 50 appearances, establishing himself as a regular starter. Chivas made the loan permanent in May 2024 while keeping a buy-back option, and exercised that clause on 4 July 2025 to bring Campillo back to Guadalajara. The fee was reported at $2.2 million for half of his economic rights, and he signed with Chivas until June 2029.
Campillo has also represented Mexico internationally, winning gold with the U-23 side at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador. He was called up to the senior national team and made his debut on 25 February 2026, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 friendly win over Iceland. He was named to the Liga MX Best XI for the Clausura 2026 tournament.
