José Raúl Rangel Aguilar

Raúl Rangel came through the Chivas academy, which he joined in 2015, before getting his chance with the first team. Tapatío won the Liga de Expansión MX Clausura 2023 title and the following Campeón de Campeones, though Rangel was not between the posts for that final; Eduardo García started instead. His senior debut for Guadalajara came on 1 October 2023 against Toluca, and by the Clausura 2024 tournament he had established himself as the starting goalkeeper, going on to sign a contract with the club running to 2028.

His rise continued at international level. Rangel made his debut for Mexico on 5 June 2024 in a friendly against Uruguay and has since been part of the squads that won the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2024/2025 CONCACAF Nations League. He was named in Mexico's squad for the 2026 World Cup as the starting goalkeeper, keeping clean sheets in the opening group matches against South Africa and South Korea. That run made him only the second Mexican goalkeeper, after Guillermo Ochoa in 2014, to open a World Cup with back-to-back clean sheets. Against South Korea, an 87th-minute save proved decisive as Mexico became the first side to secure a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Former Mexico goalkeeper Óscar Pérez described Rangel as the best in the country heading into the World Cup, and he is frequently spoken of alongside Luis Ángel Malagón as one of Liga MX's leading goalkeepers.
