Ethan Köhler

Ethan Köhler grew up in the San Jose Earthquakes Academy before choosing the professional route over a place at Stanford University, signing with Oakland Roots SC in January 2023. The stint in USL Championship lasted a single appearance before he left for Germany that June, joining SV Werder Bremen II, where he made 34 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord. A loan to SC Verl in the 3. Liga followed in July 2025, giving him four matches of senior German football before he returned to the United States as a free agent at the end of the year, joining New England Revolution on a contract that runs through the 2028–29 season with a club option for a further year.

His clearest impact so far has come with the United States youth sides. He was a key member of the US U-20 squad that reached the final of the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, scoring during the tournament, and the following year started four matches at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where clean sheet wins against France and Italy in the knockout rounds carried the team to the quarterfinals.

At club level in MLS he is still building his record. A head injury in February 2026 interrupted his early progress, but by May he was back in the side, and against Nashville SC he deflected a goal-bound cross off the crossbar. Major honours at senior club level have so far eluded him.
