Juan Fernando Alfaro

Juan Fernando Alfaro made his professional debut at Juventud Unida in his native Gualeguaychú in 2019. From there he moved to Racing de Córdoba, where he played a key role in the 2022 campaign that ended with the club winning the Torneo Federal A and earning promotion to the Primera Nacional.

In early 2023 Alfaro crossed into Paraguayan football, joining Club Nacional. He spent three seasons there, established himself as a regular starter in a defensive midfield role, and played over a hundred matches, scoring 12 league goals along the way.

Olimpia acquired a 30% share of his economic rights from Nacional, while Juventud Unida, his first club, kept hold of the other half and launched legal action alleging it had not been properly compensated. The deal, built on asset swaps and financial arrangements rather than a straightforward signing, still delivered results on the pitch: with Olimpia, Alfaro won the first major title of his career, the 2026 Apertura of the Paraguayan Primera División.

Alfaro has represented Argentina at youth level but has not been capped by the senior national team. He has not taken up Paraguayan citizenship and has received no call-up from Paraguay.
