He stayed with Chicago through 2018, before a free transfer took him to Rangers FC in January 2019.

New England Revolution's pursuit of Polster that July was structured in two parts: a fee reported at around £300,000–£350,000 paid to Rangers for his international registration, alongside $100,000 in allocation money sent to Chicago Fire to secure his MLS rights.

He has gone on to make more than 250 MLS appearances and passed 19,000 minutes played for the league, earning Team of the Week recognition in September 2021 and a Team of the Matchday nod in September 2023. He was capped 11 times by the U-23s during the 2015–16 Olympic qualifying campaign, and earned a single senior cap in a goalless friendly draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in January 2018. In May 2025, he committed his future to New England with a contract extension through the 2027 season.
