Mamadou Fofana

Mamadou Fofana came through the Stade Malien academy in Bamako before moving to Turkey to join Alanyaspor. A loan at Bandırmaspor brought 10 appearances in the 2016–2017 season, and he made his professional debut for Alanyaspor in January 2017, in a 2–3 defeat away to Çaykur Rizespor in the Süper Lig.

His move into French football followed in July 2018, when Metz signed him for a reported fee of around €500,000. He spent three seasons there, making 69 appearances, before a switch to Amiens SC in August 2021 for roughly €2.0 million. Fofana went on to make 114 appearances for Amiens. One moment stands out from that spell: on 30 October 2022, he scored his first goal for the club in a Coupe de France tie against Chambly, then captained the side to victory on penalties after the match had finished 0–0.

Internationally, Fofana has represented Mali since making his senior debut in October 2017 against Ivory Coast in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. He scored his first goal for the national team a year later, in a 1–1 draw with Burundi during qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. By November 2024 he had earned 44 caps and scored twice for Mali. Earlier in his career, he had already reached a major final at youth level, playing in Mali's run to the final of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, a tournament in which they lost to Nigeria; Fofana featured in the semi-final win over Belgium.

Fofana joined New England Revolution from Amiens SC for a fee of €1.7 million, signing a three-year contract that runs through 2027 with a club option for a further year.
