Amsterdam Flames

The "Dutch Derby" against the Rotterdam Dockers has already produced its first winner before the Amsterdam Flames could play a home match of their own: the two sides met on 26 and 27 August 2026 in Voorburg for the opening fixture of the European T20 Premier League, and the Dockers took it by five wickets.

What the Flames bring to that rivalry is a squad built around imported experience. Mitchell Marsh captains a side that also includes Steve Smith and Tim David, while Ajinkya Rahane joins as a marquee player and Scott Edwards, captain of the Netherlands, gives the dressing room a local point of reference. Steve Waugh, the club's Co-Founder and Chief Cricket Officer, has framed the recruitment around pairing those names with young European players who can learn from them.

Waugh's involvement traces back to a pitch he accepted within 48 hours, making him the first owner to commit to the league; his stake is backed by a consortium that includes former Australian hockey international Jamie Dwyer and chief executive Tim Thomas, alongside Bollywood actor and league co-founder Abhishek Bachchan. The club held its launch event in Amstelveen on 7 May 2026, ahead of a season played out at the VRA Cricket Ground, which holds 4,500 spectators under the club's orange, black and white colours.
