Glasgow Cosmic

Matthew Hayden did not join Glasgow Cosmic to sit in a directors' box. The rebrand that came with it was more than cosmetic: the franchise had first been announced as Glasgow Mugafians, tied to the Mugafi Group's entertainment business, before settling on the name and colours — dark navy, cyan, bright royal blue and white — it carries into its first season.

That first season is 2026, and Glasgow Cosmic is one of six founding franchises of the European T20 Premier League, a competition run jointly by the cricket boards of Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands. The club plays for Glasgow without playing in it: fixtures are shared between Sportpark Westvliet in Voorburg and Malahide Cricket Ground in Ireland, the latter holding over ten times the crowd the Dutch ground can. There is no home soil to defend, only away legs in two countries.

Richie Berrington captains a squad built around Scottish leads like George Munsey and a wide spread of international recruits — Liam Livingstone, Finn Allen, Kamindu Mendis, Keshav Maharaj among them — assembled specifically for this inaugural tournament rather than grown through any academy pipeline of the club's own.

With no honours yet to their name and a rivalry only one match old, the task ahead is simple enough.
