Belfast Wolves

Cricket in Ireland had never had a franchise quite like this before the European T20 Premier League set out to build one from scratch, and the Belfast Wolves emerged as one of its three foundation clubs, put together by Glenn Maxwell and businessman Rohan Lund, the former Group CEO of the Australian insurer NRMA. Maxwell did not stop at ownership; he took the captaincy as well.

The Wolves carry Belfast in their name, yet their cricket is played across the border, at The Village in Malahide, County Dublin, where temporary grandstands push capacity to 11,500 and make it the largest cricket ground in Ireland. The rivalry with the Dublin Guardians remains a fixture billed as the Irish derby and pitched as a straight contest for bragging rights between Leinster and the North.

Maxwell built a squad that leans heavily on international recruitment, pairing overseas names such as Chris Jordan, Devon Conway and David Miller with Irish regulars including Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker.

Results through the opening season have come in patches — a 52-run win over the Guardians, a nine-wicket win over the Amsterdam Flames. The league's first final is set for 20 September 2026.
