Asane

Bergen's handball scene has long carried Tertnes IL as its senior standard-bearer, and Åsane Håndball, based on the northern side of the city, has grown into the club that feeds it. The two run a formal cooperation agreement covering player loans and development, and it has already sent players through — Rikke Øyerhamn went on from Åsane to Tertnes and then to the Norwegian national team and Molde Håndball, with Avril Mikkelsen Frei and Bertine Moldestad-Evensen following a similar path.

Åsane describes itself as a "breddeklubb" — a grassroots club built around development rather than senior silverware — and its record bears that out. Where the club has won is in its own age groups: the Boys 18 side took the national championship in 2023, 2024 and 2025, beating Follo HK in the most recent final, and the Boys 20 team added a title of its own in 2024.

Home matches are played in front of around 2,200 at Åsane Arena in the Myrdal district, in orange and black. Locally, Fyllingen Håndball and Bergen HK turn up as regular opponents in the lower divisions and cup rounds, though nothing in Åsane's fixtures carries the weight of a fixed derby.

For a club founded in 1997, the last three years have been defined by what its academy has produced rather than by the senior team's league position — and the task now is turning that pipeline of Boys 18 and Boys 20 champions into senior players who can push the first team further up the table.
