Fjellhammer IL

For decades, Lørenskog's handball has run through one address, Fjellhamar Arena, where a derby against Stabæk Håndball is played.

Fjellhammer's best years belong to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the men's senior side lifted the NM Cup three times, in 1977/78, 1978/79 and 1983/84. The last of those triumphs came in the same season the team also finished second in the league, with a bronze medal following the year before that run began.

The club has since become known as much for who passed through it as for what it won. Kent Robin Tønnesen went on to play for Paris Saint-Germain and the Norwegian national team, and Fjellhammer's name is attached to his early development in a way that still gets mentioned whenever the club is discussed. Camilla Carstens carried the same path into a national shirt after leaving for Denmark's league. Names like these matter more here than another line of results, because a club of Fjellhammer's size measures itself by the players it sends further than by the medals it keeps.

The men's team now competes in the REMA 1000-ligaen, the top flight of Norwegian handball, still wearing the green and yellow that have marked the club since it was founded in 1931. Staying competitive against clubs with deeper resources is the ongoing task; the derby with Stabæk remains the fixture by which a season in Lørenskog is judged.
