Bègles built its handball around one thing: Club Athlétique Béglais Handball took shape in 1947, and the women's team has since become the part of the club people outside the department actually know.

Its best run came in a decade when the side kept finding Europe's second-tier competition and kept winning it. The EHF Challenge Cup came home in 2011, against Muratpaşa Belediyesi, and again in 2015, when Bègles beat Pogoń Szczecin over two legs, 49–44 on aggregate. Domestically the club's high point sits earlier: playing as Mios-Biganos, it took the Coupe de France in 2009, having already reached the final twice without winning it, in 1998 and 1999.

Between 2013 and 2015 the team competed as Union Mios-Biganos-Bègles, a merger that folded two clubs' handball ambitions into one roster before the Bègles name reasserted itself. A training centre opened in 2013, around the same stretch that produced the second European trophy. The club has since gone by CAB, and by Bègles plainly, in a town where Girondins de Bordeaux Bastide provides the nearest thing to a local rival, played out more in the standings than in any fixed grudge.

Matches are held at Salle Duhourquet, which seats 800 — modest next to Salle Jean Dauguet across the river in Bordeaux, where the club once played before settling into its own ground. Blue and white have stayed the colours throughout, from the amateur side that started in 1947 to the team that later stood on European podiums.
