Larry Fitzgerald played eighteen seasons for the Cardinals and never once got to lift a Super Bowl trophy with them. Drafted in 2004, he retired in 2020.
It began life in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, which makes it the oldest continuously operating professional football outfit in the country. It left Chicago for St. Louis in 1960, and left St. Louis for Arizona in 1988 at owner Bill Bidwill's insistence on a better stadium and a better market.
Two NFL Championships came early and long ago, in 1925 and 1947, the second of them earned by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 28–21 under Jimmy Conzelman. The closest the club has come since is Super Bowl XLIII, lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23–27 under Ken Whisenhunt in the 2008 season, and that near-miss now sits inside the longest active championship drought in North American professional sports.
None of that history softens the games against the Los Angeles Rams. The rivalry dates to 1937, older than anything else on the Cardinals' schedule, and it has followed the club through every relocation since — Chicago, St.
