When Debreceni Hoki Klub ran out of money in January 2018, the senior team it left behind did not fold with it. Debreceni Egyetemi Atlétikai Club, the university sports society that had existed since 1919 without a hockey section of its own, stepped in and took over the club's place in the Erste Liga.

They play as the Black and Whites, and their home is the Debreceni Jégcsarnok. No senior league title or Hungarian Cup has followed since the switch; the closest the city came was a bronze in the Cup, and that was still under the old DHK name.

Artyom Vaszjunyin has been part of both eras. He is remembered in Debrecen as a player first, and since April 2023 he has run the team from behind the bench as well, taking on the head coach's job while the club still leans on the experience of players such as Zoltán Hetényi and Ákos Berta.

The fixture Debrecen circles on the calendar is against DVTK Jegesmedvék of Miskolc.
