Fenerbahçe's basketball side spent more than a century chasing a European crown before it finally arrived in 2017, and the club made sure the wait was not repeated: in 2025 the EuroLeague title came round again. Between those two nights, the domestic game rarely slipped away from Istanbul — the Basketbol Süper Ligi has gone to Fenerbahçe twelve times since 1990–91, with 2024 and 2025 forming the latest of several back-to-back runs.

The club's history with silverware goes back further than the league itself. In the years before a unified championship existed, Fenerbahçe had already been crowned Turkish champions three times, in 1957, 1959 and 1965 — a period the yellow-and-navy shirts, worn by a team known to its own supporters as the Canary Yellow Birds, have long outlasted. More recent seasons added three Turkish Cups and, in 2025 and 2026, consecutive Presidential Cups, keeping the trophy room busy even in years without a European final.

Home games are played in front of up to 16,000 people at the Sinan Erdem Dome, a scale that suits a club whose basketball rivalries carry as much weight in Istanbul as its football does — against Galatasaray in what is called the Intercontinental Derby, and against Anadolu Efes in the Istanbul Derby. The basketball department itself is as old as the club's ambitions beyond football: it was set up in 1913, the same year Fenerbahçe Sports Club took its first step outside the game it was originally built around.
