Gjerpen Women

Flint Tønsberg is the name that still gets Skien talking.

Gjerpen's handball section belongs to Gjerpen Idrettsforening, a multi-sport club dating to 30 January 1918, though the handball side only came into its own decades later. Between 1984 and 1991 the women's team won the Postenligaen three times, and from 1985 they added five NM Cup wins in the space of eight seasons, four of them against the same opponent, Byåsen. In 1992, they defeated Toten 24–19, and in 1993, a 20–14 win over Larvik HK closed out the run.

The closest the club came to a European trophy was in 1996, when it reached the final of the EHF Cup Winners' Cup and lost. That season marked the last real high point; two NM Cup final defeats, to Byåsen in 1986 and to Larvik HK in 1996, bracket the era rather than crown it.

The club plays in the 1. Division after relegation from the Eliteserien in the 2019/2020 season. Skienshallen, where they play, holds 2,800.
