Herlev

The 1983–84 championship remains the only Danish title in the club's history, taken as Herlev IK with Canadian imports Frank Barth and Dana Barbin doing much of the scoring against AaB Ishockey in the final.

A run to the Danish Cup final followed in 2002–03, lost to Odense Bulldogs, but the club's identity owes as much to its name as to its results: Herlev IK became Herlev Ishockey in 1992, Herlev Eagles in 1999, Herlev Hornets in 2005, then Eagles again from 2011, tracking relegations in 1992 and 2009 and promotions back to the top flight in 1999 and 2011.

Thor Dresler stands as the franchise's leading scorer, while Kim Staal went the other way from Herlev's own youth ranks into a career in Sweden and with the national team. Against Rødovre Mighty Bulls, a few kilometres away in the same corner of the Copenhagen suburbs, the club plays a lokalderby.

In December 1984, months after the championship, forward Palle Schultz was struck in the neck by a stick during a match against Rungsted IK and died at 24. His brother Arne also played for the club.

The team now trains and plays at the PM Montage Arena, 1,800 seats under the old name Herlev Skøjtehal, backed by a supporters' club calling itself Ørneborgen — the Eagles Nest. It was there, and under that first name of Herlev IK, that three men, Poul Andersen, Jørgen Raae and Torben With, started the club in 1968.
