Kahramanmaras

Kahramanmaraş spent much of 2023 digging out from the February earthquakes. Kipaş Holding and the Metropolitan Municipality set up the club that year, and Kahramanmaraş İstiklalspor's basketball branch took its first professional court in the 2024-2025 season.

It did not take long to make a mark. Playing in the TB2L, the club finished as runner-up in the 2024-2025 Final Group, a result that earned promotion to the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi, the country's second tier. Hikmet Gümüşer, who heads the basketball branch on Kipaş Holding's board, has been the figure steering that rise, with head coach Candost Volkan overseeing the group that got them there.

There is no local rival to sharpen the fixture list against; the club stands as the city's only professional representative in the league, with sides like Gaziantep Basketbol serving as the nearest regional opposition. The football club across town, Kahramanmaraşspor, carries the nickname "Aslanlar" — the basketball side has taken shape without one of its own, its identity tied instead to the earthquake recovery that brought it into being.

Home games are played in red and white at the Kahramanmaraş Merkez Spor Salonu, a hall that holds just over 9,000 and now gives the city a basketball team to fill it.
