Gaziantep

Gaziantep Basketbol are back in the Turkish Basketball League (TBL), the second tier, after slipping out of the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) in 2023.

Gaziantep University backed the club's creation in 2007, and it spent its early years working up from the third tier, taking the EBBL in 2010 before reaching the BSL for the 2012–13 season. What followed was carried by the sponsorship of Royal Halı, whose name the club wore from 2012 to 2016. Signings such as Cory Higgins and Joey Dorsey gave the Red-Blacks a squad capable of competing with Turkey's established sides, and in 2013–14 they finished third in the FIBA EuroChallenge. When Royal Halı pulled its backing in 2016, the money that had built that squad went with it, and relegation from the BSL followed within the year.

The club has stayed in the BSL picture since, without ever quite settling there — a fifth-place finish in 2018–19 came with quarter-final runs in both the Turkish Cup and the Basketball Champions League. There is no BSL title or Cup on the club's record, and no fixed rivalry either, though Adana Basketbol gets treated as the nearest thing to one on the rare occasions the sides meet.

Since 2011 the club has run its own academy, built on the idea that Tofaş had already proven: raise players locally rather than buy them in. Emir Ali Göktürk came through that system and was named MVP when Gaziantep's junior side won the Junior League in 2021–22.
