Konin already has a football identity split between Górnik, in white and blue, and Medyk, in white and black; Start built its own name in a sport neither of them plays.

That climb took years to show results. The team's promotion out of the II Liga in the 2021/2022 season followed a spell in which sixth place, reached under coach Marek Salzman in 2016/2017, had stood as the best finish in the club's history. Getting past that mark meant winning the league outright rather than chasing a top-half table position. The next step came this year, when Start secured promotion to the I Liga for the 2025/2026 season — the first time the senior side has reached that level.

Behind the first team, the club's youth structure produced its own landmark: the girls' side reached the last 16 of the Polish Youth Championships in 2024/2025. Dariusz Pietrzyk presides over the association, formally registered as SSRiR Start Konin, running both the senior and junior programmes under one roof.
