Kraainem

In 2004, Sporting Kraainem '72 stopped playing altogether. Former players and supporters would not let the matricule die quietly: in 2006 they registered a new club, HC Kraainem, under a different number, but built it as a continuation of what had come before rather than a fresh start.

It did not take long to move up. The club won the Belgian Promotion, the fourth tier, in 2009, then took the Division 1 LFH title that same season and again the following year, climbing from the bottom of the pyramid to the top flight inside a few seasons. Runner-up finishes followed in 2014 and 2016, and by 2024 HC Kraainem had reached third place in the national top division, a level the old Sporting Kraainem had never touched.

The senior team now plays its Division 1 matches at the Salle Delta in Auderghem, some distance from home, while the rest of the club still trains and plays at the Hall des Sports in Kraainem itself. Fixtures against United Brussels HC carry their own weight in the women's section, billed locally as the Brussels derby. The youth academy has fed the senior sides for years, with players such as Victor Vanslype and Gibril Fredj moving on to represent Belgium at youth level.

Gert-Jan Mathijs takes over as head coach for the 2026-2027 season, a club still carrying the number it was given in 2006, still standing in for the one that closed its doors in 2004.
