Loka

In the 2021/22 Slovenian Cup, RD Loka got as far as a final and lost it 31–34 to RK Gorenje Velenje. Nine years before that the original RD Škofja Loka, dating to 1958, went bankrupt in 2011 and disappeared, and it took a re-founding in January 2012, under the name RD Loka 2012, to put a handball team back on the floor in the town.

The floor in question is a small one. Športna dvorana Trata holds 350 for handball, and a club that plays there builds one around getting out of the league's mid-table, which is roughly where Ločani have lived for most of their history, a fourth place their best finish domestically, a fifth in 2019/20 the more recent marker. The Slovenian Cup final remains the one time silverware came within reach.

Darko Cingesar wore the club's green and yellow both before and after his spell with the Slovenian national team, the kind of career arc that ties a small-town club to the top level and back again without the club itself ever getting there. The current squad, built around players like Gašper Mali and the Jesenko brothers, plays under a name that has changed more than once — Termo, Merkur, Loka — sponsorship rewriting the shirt while the town underneath stayed the same.

Further out, in the 2008/09 EHF Cup, the club reached the round of 16 — as far into Europe as Škofja Loka has gone.
