The handball section at Paris Saint-Germain did not begin life as anything Parisian at all: it started in 1941 as Patriotes d'Asnières, before Paris Saint-Germain FC bought it in 1992 and turned it into PSG-Asnières. Even that didn't stick: Louis Nicollin took it over in 2002 and called it simply Paris Handball. The name that matters now only arrived in 2012, when Qatar Sports Investments bought the club and restored the Paris Saint-Germain Handball identity for good.

Everything since has been built on that 2012 takeover. The club has not finished outside first place in the Starligue since 2013, a run of thirteen straight titles that has left Montpellier Handball, the old power in French handball, as the only rival capable of turning a league fixture into an event. Mikkel Hansen's five years in Paris left him as the club's all-time top scorer, and Nikola Karabatic arrived in 2015 to captain a side already accustomed to winning domestically but still short of what QSI's money was meant to buy: a European trophy. The closest they have come was the runners-up finish in the EHF Champions League in 2017.

Home games are still played at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin, though the club shifts its biggest continental nights to the Accor Arena when it wants the numbers a European tie can draw. Stefan Madsen has been in charge since 2025, with Roberto Garcia Parrondo already lined up to take over in 2027, and the immediate task in front of them is the one that has eluded every coach since 2012: winning the competition the domestic dominance was supposed to be a stepping stone toward.
