Grunwald spend this season in the men's I Liga's Group D, the second tier of Polish handball — the senior side has no national title to point to.

The section grew out of a multi-sport club founded in Ruda Śląska back in 1920 as KS Gwiazda Halemba, and it is from there that the green and white colours come, carried forward once the handball side split off. Handball-Base dates that split to 1959, though the club's own account of its history has pointed to a year closer to 1960.

Whatever development the club can show comes from below the first team. A junior side took the Silesian Junior Championship in 2013, and in 2024 Grunwald's youngsters were crowned Polish junior champions in beach handball, a discipline the senior men's team does not play. Those results sit alongside a football section once carried by the same club, which reached the second tier in the late 1990s and has since dropped to the eighth.

City rivalries in Ruda Śląska run through GKS Urania and Wawel Wirek, though the more notable handball name in town belongs to the women's side, Zgoda Ruda Śląska Bielszowice — a separate club, in blue and white, that won the Polish Cup twice in the 2000s. Grunwald's own honours list has nothing from that level, and a senior trophy is still what the men's team has not managed to bring back to the Rudzkie Olimpijczycy arena.
