SønderjyskE Women

SønderjyskE Kvindehåndbold grew out of a 2004 consolidation of Sønderjysk elite sport, when five clubs from the region joined under one banner, Sønderjysk Elitesport A/S. The women's handball side that entered that merger traced back to Sønderjyske HK, a club that had existed since 1906, and it kept that older side's place on the court while taking on the new shared identity.

What has followed since has been a story of yo-yoing rather than settling in. The team went up to the top flight in 2005 and came straight back down in 2006, repeated the cycle after promotion in 2008, again after 2012, and in 2015 went up only to be relegated the same season. Promotion arrived again in 2022.

Olivera Kecman ran the sporting side of the club, as head coach and sports director, until 2020, a period spanning several of those promotion pushes. Home games are played in front of just under 1,500 people at Arena Aabenraa. Aalborg Håndbold and Mors-Thy Håndbold are named as the club's main rivals, though the fixture against either has never taken on a fixed name of its own.

The league title has not come to Aabenraa, nor has the Santander Cup.
