That came in 2022, when the pandemic's aftermath left the finances in ruins and the club needed to raise 5.2 million Danish kroner just to keep playing.

The team's roots go back to 1957, when young people from the villages of Sorring, Gjern and Voel formed Voel KFUM. A sponsorship deal with Jyske Bank in 2001 brought the current name. In 2005 the men's side merged into Bjerringbro-Silkeborg Håndbold, but the women kept their own path, and in 2018 they cut the last formal ties to the men's club to stand fully on their own.

A Danish Championship has never come to Silkeborg-Voel; their deepest run in the league stopped at the quarter-final in 2016/17. The Danish Cup has treated them better lately — a first Final Four in 2022, then bronze in 2023, the club's only honour on record.
