Vendsyssel Håndbold

Pernille Brandenborg was the name attached to the promotion when it finally came, the pivot whose form in 2019–2020 carried Vendsyssel Håndbold to the top of the Danish 1st Division. That season never finished — the pandemic cancelled it outright — but the league awarded the title anyway, and with it a place among Denmark's elite.

The club had grown out of the Frederikshavn and Sæby area of North Jutland, formed in May 2011, and its promotion in 2020 sent it into the HTH-Ligaen for the first time. It lasted one season there. Vendsyssel finished bottom of the regular table in 2020–21 and dropped straight back down to the 1st Division.

Two years earlier, in 2018, the club had bought its own arena from Frederikshavn Municipality for one krone. It seats 600.

None of that mattered by February 2022. Vendsyssel Håndbold filed for bankruptcy, its contracts torn up and its results for the season struck from the record. The licence passed to the parent club, Frederikshavn FI, and the fixtures against Sæby HK and EH Aalborg — the local clashes that had given the club its edge in North Jutland — ended with it.
