MKS Wieluń go into the Polish handball season in the I Liga, still chasing the kind of finish that made 2018/2019 stand out: fourth place in Group B, the highest the club has ever managed at this level. That campaign also brought a run in the Polish Cup, where Wieluń beat AZS UW Warszawa 29:26 and had already accounted for Chrobry Głogów the year before.

Getting to the I Liga at all took three decades. The handball section, set up in 1983 inside the wider MKS Wieluń sports club, spent years working through the divisions before the 2014/2015 season brought the breakthrough: winning Group III of the II Liga and, with it, promotion. The club has played its matches since at the Hala Sportowa WOSiR, a hall that seats 609.

Mateusz Kaźmierczak, a line player who came up through Poland's junior national team, is alongside centre back Tomasz Wawrzyniak. On the calendar, the fixture against Anilana Łódź carries its own weight locally, both clubs from the Łódź Voivodeship and the game occasionally called the provincial derby.

None of it traces back further than a handball section added to a club, MKS Wieluń, that already existed for other sports before 1983 gave it a team of its own.
