The fixture that matters most for Wolsztyniak is the trip to Poznań, where WKS Grunwald wait — the two sides play out the "Derby Wielkopolski."

The handball section itself goes back to April 1967, folded into the multi-sport club Grom Wolsztyn, before Wolsztyniak split off as its own entity on 5 November 1994. Its clearest silverware sits in the II Liga, won twice, in 1995–96 and again in 2009–10, each title carrying promotion with it. Higher up, in the I Liga, a run to the last sixteen of the Polish Cup in 2010–11.

Money trouble in 2018 sent the club back to the bottom of the league pyramid. Marek Świtała came through the Wolsztyn academy before making his name as a left wing at Chrobry Głogów, where he passed 1,000 goals in the Superliga; he later returned to Wolsztyniak, first as a player, then as coach. Marcin Pietruszka spent his career at the club and stands as its long-term top scorer.

In July 2026 player Hubert Kierych suffered a severe stroke, and Wolsztyniak went public asking for support for him.
