Hanna Popaja arrived from Lugi HF to keep goal for a side that, two years earlier, did not exist above Division 4. She has watched it move faster than most: promoted through Damallsvenskan in the 2023/2024 season and straight into the Handbollsligan for 2024/2025, only to finish last there and lose the relegation play-off to HK Aranäs, sending the team straight back down.

Konrad Rasmussen has coached that rise and fall, working with a squad built around pivots Maja Persson and Sally Sivertsson and left backs Julia Nilsson and Elin Steen. None of them carries a Swedish Championship or a Swedish Cup medal on the women's side; those belong to the club's men, four times national champions and, in the last two seasons, cup winners as well.

Home games are played in front of 2,700 seats at Ystad Arena, in blue and white, against opponents from across Skåne — Malmö, Lugi, and IFK Ystad among them, the last of those fixtures known locally as the Ysta-derby. The rivalries are inherited from a men's section that has carried the Ystads IF name since 1908; the women's team took it up only for the 2023 season, starting three tiers below where it now plays.
