About

The Campeonato Baiano stands as the premier professional football league in the Brazilian state of Bahia. Organised by the Federação Bahiana de Futebol (FBF), the competition occupies Level 1 of the national football pyramid. It holds the distinction of being the second-oldest state championship in Brazil, having been founded in 1905 by the Liga Bahiana de Sports Terrestres (LBST). The tournament has been played without interruption since its inception, maintaining a continuous history that spans more than a century.

The current season features eight clubs including Atlético Alagoinhas, Bahia, Bahia de Feira, Barcelona BA, Galícia, and Jacuipense. The structure underwent a notable adjustment for the 2026 campaign, with the final set to transition from two legs to a single decisive match. Previously, the bottom two teams faced relegation to the Campeonato Baiano Second Division (Série A2), while the champion and often the runner-up from that tier earned promotion. The 2026 edition is branded as "Baianão Mansão Green" following the sale of naming rights, a commercial practice seen previously with sponsors such as Chevrolet and Superbet.

Esporte Clube Bahia leads the historical record with 52 titles, surpassing Esporte Clube Vitória, who have won 30 championships. Bahia enters the 2026 season as the reigning champion after defeating Vitória 3-1 on aggregate in the previous year's final. The rivalry between these two clubs defines the Clássico Rebenque, recognised as the oldest football rivalry in Brazil, dating back to 1907. While the competition has seen various structural reforms to formalise promotion and relegation pathways, the core identity remains rooted in its long-standing regional significance and competitive tradition.
