In August 2025, Carlo Ancelotti called Jean Lucas into the senior Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia, replacing the injured Joelinton. The call-up ended a 34-year wait: no Bahia player had been named in the main national team since 1991.

He came through the Flamengo academy and played for the first team in 2018 and 2019, with a loan spell at Santos in the first half of 2019. That June, Lyon paid €8m for him. A loan to Brest in January 2021 was followed by a €12m move to Monaco that summer, roughly 74m reais.

The route back to Brazil was tangled in club finances. Santos signed him in 2023 for €6m; according to All Football App, the deal was tied to Santos clearing a 12m-reais debt to Monaco, part of an arrangement that included Bruno Henrique's sale to Flamengo for 23m reais.

Bahia bought him in January 2024 for a base fee of 24.2m reais, with bonuses that could take it to 32m. By August 2025 he had made 102 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals and adding seven assists. He is Bahia's second-highest scorer in the club's Copa Libertadores history, with four goals.

The Campeonato Baiano final in 2026 was his afternoon: two goals against Vitória in the match that won Bahia the state title. The same year he reached 300 professional appearances.
