About the player
Bahia paid a fixed $3m in January 2025 for 80% of Nicolás Acevedo's economic rights. The remaining 20% stayed with Liverpool de Montevideo, the club that raised him.
That was where it started. Acevedo came through the Liverpool academy in Montevideo and debuted for the first team on 14 October 2018. Between 2018 and 2020 he played 34 matches in the Uruguayan league, plus one in the Copa Sudamericana.
New York City FC signed him permanently in March 2020 using Allocation Money; the fee was not disclosed. He spent five years on the club's books and made 67 regular-season MLS appearances, along with two in the US Open Cup, six in CONCACAF competition and seven across the MLS is Back Tournament, the play-offs, the Campeones Cup and the Leagues Cup. He won the MLS Cup with New York in 2021 and the Campeones Cup in 2022.
In 2025 he played 52 matches and scored his first goal for the club.
With Uruguay he made 17 appearances and scored twice for the under-20 side between 2018 and 2019, taking in the South American U-20 Championship and the 2019 U-20 World Cup, then played seven times for the under-23s in 2020. He has not been called up to the senior national team.
