Cearense - 1 (Brazil) 2026/27

The **Campeonato Cearense** represents the highest level of professional football in the Brazilian state of Ceará. As the premier competition at Level 1 of the regional pyramid, it determines the strongest team in the Northeast region of Brazil. The tournament is currently contested by ten clubs, including prominent sides **Ceará**, **Ferroviario**, **Floresta**, **Fortaleza**, **Horizonte**, and **Iguatu**.

The structure of the season is complex, designed to test consistency across multiple phases. It begins with a first stage divided into two groups of five teams each. The top six teams from this initial round advance to a second group stage, which ultimately feeds into the knockout period. The competition concludes with two-legged semi-finals and a final, where the champion is decided. The bottom two teams in the standings face relegation to the Campeonato Cearense Série B, while the leading pair from the second tier earn promotion to maintain the squad size.

Winning the title grants the victor entry into national competitions, specifically the **Copa do Nordeste**, the **Copa do Brasil**, and the **Série D**. This pathway is crucial for clubs seeking to compete on a broader stage outside their home state. The league is organized by the Liga Metropolitana Cearense de Futebol, which has overseen the sport in the region since the early twentieth century.

The landscape of the championship is heavily defined by the rivalry between **Ceará** and **Fortaleza**. These two institutions share the record for the most titles in the competition's history, each holding forty-seven championships. Their dominance is so profound that the state's football culture is often characterized by their mutual clashes, referred to by fans as the "Clássico-Rei". While other clubs like **Ferroviario** and **Floresta** have periods of success, the title race remains a contest primarily between these two giants.
