The Supercopa de España is a standalone football tournament organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). It sits at the top of the Spanish football pyramid as a trophy distinct from La Liga and the Copa del Rey. The competition underwent a major reform in April 2019, changing it to a four-team "Final Four" knockout tournament played over a single weekend. This change was driven by a lucrative financial partnership with Saudi Arabia, valued at €120 million for the initial three-year deal (2020–2022), later extended for ten years until at least 2029.
Since 2020, it has been held in Saudi Arabia (Jeddah/Riyadh), with the 2027 edition scheduled for Istanbul, Turkey, due to the AFC Asian Cup. The four participants are the winners and runners-up of the previous season's La Liga and Copa del Rey. There is no promotion or relegation. The official website is supercopa.rfef.es.
FC Barcelona is the most successful club with 16 titles (as of the 2026 edition), followed by Real Madrid with 13. The current holder is FC Barcelona, who defeated Real Madrid 3–2 in the 2026 final. Notable distinctions include the shift from a traditional two-legged home-and-away tie to a neutral-venue weekend tournament, and the significant controversy surrounding the relocation to Saudi Arabia, which faced opposition from La Liga president Javier Tebas and Spanish broadcaster RTVE.
