Campeonato Tocantinense serves as the premier professional football competition for the Brazilian state of Tocantins. Organized by the Federação Tocantinense de Futebol (FTF), it operates at Level 1 of the Brazilian football pyramid. The tournament began in 1989 as an amateur event before transitioning to professional status in 1993.
The current season features eight clubs competing in a single round-robin format known as the Primeira Fase. Each team plays seven matches during this phase. The standings determine the progression to the next stage: the top four teams qualify for the knockout phase, while the bottom two face relegation to the Segunda Divisão. Promotion from the second tier generally involves the leading two sides, which preserves the eight-team structure of the top flight.
The knockout stage, or mata-mata, consists of two-legged semi-finals followed by a two-legged final. This format creates decisive encounters where margins are slim. Tocantinópolis claimed the 2026 title by defeating União Atlético Clube in the championship decider. In the previous year, Araguaína secured the 2025 championship after a playoff, following the original winner, União AC, being stripped of the title by the STJD for fielding an ineligible player.
Palmas and Tocantinópolis stand as the most successful entities in the competition’s history, with each holding eight titles. The league maintains a compact structure compared to other state competitions in Brazil. Recent editions have seen significant influence from legal disputes regarding player eligibility, affecting the final standings and championship outcomes. The record victory in the competition's history remains Tocantinópolis 13–1 against Tocantins EC, set in 2022.
